On Sunday, December 8, Team India was handed a crushing defeat at the hands of Australia in the pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. After being bundled out at the score of 180 in their first innings, India was restricted to 175 in the second innings, thus posting a 18-run lead. The Australian opening pair of Nathan McSweeney and Usman Khawaja did the part for the hosts, chasing the 19-run target in 3.2 overs to register a commanding win.
With this win, Australia not only levelled the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series, they also maintained their clean record at home in pink-ball Test, winning all eight day-night Test matches played so far on their home soil. Moreover, the Test, which ended inside three days, also became the shortest Test in Australia in terms by balls bowled.
India slip to third place in WTC Standings; Australia reclaim top spot
With a commanding win by 10 wickets in the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, Australia reclaimed the top spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table, replacing India, who slipped to third spot. Australia sit at the top with nine wins, four losses and one draw from 14 matches. On the other hand, India are now placed below South Africa (second) with nine wins, six defeats and one draw from 16 matches.
