Lando Norris, the McLaren F1 driver, spoke in an exclusive interview about his title hopes ahead of the 2025 season, stating that he has got what it takes to become the new world champion after getting the better of Max Verstappen, the reigning four-time world champion from Red Bull. The 25-year-old was talking about the upcoming F1 season during the launch of McLaren’s 2025 car, becoming the first team on the grid to do so.
Notably, during the 2024 F1 season, the United Kingdom driver Lando Norris played a key role in helping McLaren clinch their first constructors’ title since 1998 after winning four races last year. But still, he finished 63 points behind the Dutchman Max Verstappen in the F1 Drivers’ World Championship, who ended up winning the coveted title for the fourth straight time in his career.
I felt like I proved to myself that I got what it takes: Lando Norris
Last year, Lando Norris was involved in a collision with Max Vertsappen in the Austrian race, followed by controversial incidents in races in the USA and Mexico. Ahead of the F1 2025 season, the Briton was quoted as saying about his rival, as per Sky Sports, “I want to race against Max and I do enjoy those moments. Some things obviously didn't end up in the perfect way, in the perfect scenario.”

Lando Norris also alluded to how he believes he can win the F1 title for the first-time in his career this season after establishing himself as one of the best performers on the grid last year. He remarked, “I felt like I proved to myself that I got what it takes, and that’s, you know when something clicks, and you just feel like, okay now, I can do it now. So I am definitely not coming in with any overconfidence, or you know, or too much arrogance.”
Following the pre-season testing later this month in Bahrain, the first race of the F1 2025 season will go down in Melbourne, Australia from March 14 to 16.
