India all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who is set to return to action in IPL 2024 as Mumbai Indians’ captain, opened up about his injury during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Pandya suffered an ankle injury during India’s World Cup clash against Bangladesh in Pune on October 19. While the injury seemed serious, the all-rounder said that he had told management that he would return within five days. Unfortunately, the injury kept him out for the rest of the tournament, and he missed some of the most notable clashes, including the finale.
Recently, Pandya opened up on his recovery from the injury and told Star Sports, "I had prepared for the World Cup for a year. It was a freak injury that was said to be for 25 days which means I would miss the rest of the World Cup, but I pushed. I told the management I would return in five days. I got injections done in my ankle in three places. I had to remove blood from my ankle because of the swelling." Check the top betting trends on the best betting apps in India and sites.
Even if there was one per cent chance, I would do it: Hardik Pandya
While Pandya’s injury was supposed to take only three weeks to recover, the cricketer aggravated his ankle while trying to be back on the field. Pandya said that he didn’t regret anything because he wanted to give his best shot. Mumbai Indians captain said, "At one point I knew that if I kept pushing I could be injured for a long time, but that was just not the answer for me.”
He, then said, “Even if there was one per cent chance that I could be with the team, I would do it. I had a reoccurrence which eventually became a three-month injury.”
