The Rohit Sharma-led Team India are taking on England in the five-match Test series. While the series currently stands levelled 1-1 with the visitors winning the opening match and India giving a fightback in the second Test to level the series in Vizag. However, with a break of ten days between the second and third Test, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is stilling awaiting Virat Kohli’s availability for the remainder of the series.
However, while some speculated Virat’s absence due to mother’s bad health, Virat former RCB teammate and friend AB de Villiers later confirmed that Virat and Anushka are expecting their second child. But now the Protean great has retracted from his statement, calling it “false information”.
Speaking on the sidelines of SA20 2024, AB de Villiers said, “Family comes first, its priority, as I said on my YouTube show. I also made a terrible mistake at the same time - Sharing false information, which was not true at all.”
“So, I just think whatever space for Virat and his family comes first. No one knows what’s happening there. All I can do is wish him well and I think the whole world that follows Virat and enjoys his c ricket, must just wish him well and whatever the reason is for this break, really hope that he comes back stronger and better and healthier and fresh and ready to take on the world again,” he further added.
The legendary South African batter was subsequently trolled by fans for leaking the news despite the player and the BCCI requesting for privacy. “So, yes, his second child is on the way, it’s family time. You cannot judge Virat for that, and yes we miss him but he’s made the right decision. We wish him all the very best for the great blessing of being able to become a father for the second time,” De Villiers had earlier said in his YouTube channel.
India are one of the teams with best chance: AB de Villiers on T20 World Cup 2024
Speaking on the sidelines of the SA20 2024, which is underway in South Africa, AB de Villiers also spoke of India’s chances to lift the T20 World Cup, set to be co-hosted in the USA and West Indies in July 2024. Hailing India as one of the best teams to feature in the tournament, ABD added that the team will have to take the opportunities at the right time to end their trophy drought.
“I do think they (India) are one of the teams with best chance. The IPL has been going on for so many years and it has really strengthened the depth of Indian cricket. They will have to play the big moments well, they will have to take the opportunities at the right time and be at the right place with a little bit of luck,” former South Africa captain said to PTI.
He also opined that Suryakumar Yadav will be one of the players to watch out for in the marquee tournament. “I love watching Suryakumar Yadav play. SKY - a big fan,” he said hoping that the Mumbai batter has a wonderful tournament.
