During the recent episode of The Ranveer Show (TRS), Michael Vaughan , the former England captain, made an appearance to mainly talk about the IPL and the Indian cricket team. The 49-year-old spoke about the captaincy transition from MS Dhoni to Ruturaj Gaikwad at CSK, before stating that he sees Rohit Sharma in the same role during the IPL next year.
Notably, Rohit Sharma, who captained Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles during his illustrious tenure, was replaced in the role by Hardik Pandya. Ever since the MI team management made the announcement, the Indian all-rounder has been getting severely criticised online and the chorus of boos in the stadiums during the IPL hasn’t helped his cause either.
During his appearance on The Ranveer Show (TRS) on the BeerBiceps YouTube channel, Michael Vaughan spoke about the prospect of Rohit Sharma moving away from Mumbai Indians, which the fans have been constantly discussing online and otherwise. He was quoted as saying, as per the Hindustan Times, “Will he (Rohit Sharma) go to Chennai? Replace Dhoni? Gaikwad is doing it (the captaincy) this year, and it might be just (an act of) holding position for Rohit next year. I see him in Chennai.”
In response, the podcast host Ranveer Allahbadia said, “That'd be heartbreaking, honestly. For MI fans, that'd be terrible. I wouldn't mind him going to (Sunrisers) Hyderabad; he played for Deccan Chargers, so that would be romantic.”
Moreover, after losing their first three matches in a row, Mumbai Indians were at rock bottom of the IPL 2024 points table. But, they have gotten back on track with two consecutive home wins at the Wankhede Stadium against Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and now, they will face their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings for a blockbuster clash on Sunday, April 14.
