Indian batter Prithvi Shaw opened up on the constant trolls he has been receiving on social media. The cricketer, who led India’s U-19 World Cup winning side in 2018, revealed that he keeps a check of all memes and trolls on social media. Notably, after a sudden rise in career due to his skills and power-hitting prowess, Shaw went through a major slump. Over the last few years, the cricketer has been on the receiving end of trolling and criticism due to the lack of disciplinary issues and poor form.
Recently, Shaw, who was last a part of the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, was ignored at the IPL 2025 mega-auction. The 25-year-old was one of the names, along with the likes of David Warner, Kane Williamson, James Anderson, and others, who failed to fetch a bid and remained unsold for the forthcoming season of the cash-rich league. After the completion of the IPL 2025 mega auction, a video of the cricketer started making rounds on social media, where the youngster opened up on receiving trolls and being a subject of memes on social media.
I see trolling and memes, and it hurts: Prithvi Shaw
The cricketer, who plays for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy, opened up on constant trolling and revealed that it hurts him when people troll. Not only this, but he also talked about the backlash he received from fans after one of his videos dancing on his birthday went viral. Shaw, as quoted by Sportskeeda, said in a viral video, 'Trolling isn't a good thing, but it's not so bad either. Sometimes there we get trolled and we all cricketers see it. I don't know about the rest, but I see them. If there are memes on me, or when someone trolls me, or if someone has posted something, that too. I see all the trolling and memes, and it hurts.'
He added, 'I'm not saying that it makes you laugh. That is a bit wrong. You shouldn't do such things. Wherever I go, they say Prithvi is not practising. But I think that it's my birthday. I recently got trolled for dancing with my sisters and friends on my birthday. My sister put it up on social media and I got trolled for that. I think that I can at least celebrate on one day.”
