With Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal being the new faces to open alongside Rohit Sharma in the Indian colours, Shikhar Dhawan has since then been left out. He continues to remain absent from the Indian team across formats, be it T20Is, ODIs or event Test cricket.

Recently, in his exclusive interaction with the Times of India (TOI), Dhawan opened up on his snub from the Asian Games 2023, which were played in Hangzhou, China. On being asked of his reaction after snub for the continental tournament, the Indian opener said, “When my name was not there (for Asian Games), I was a bit shocked. But, then, I was like they have a different thought process, you just have to accept it.”

He further added that he hasn’t spoken to anyone in regard to his future yet. “I have not spoken to any selector (about my future). I keep going to NCA. I enjoy my time there, the facilities are great. NCA has shaped my career and I am grateful for it,” Dhawan added.

The 38-year-old last appeared in the Bangladesh tour in December 2022.

Dhawan draws comparison of MS Dhoni & Virat Kohli’s captaincy styles

The Indian cricketer, who has been out of the scheme off late also opened up on the captaincy styles of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. While the team has reached new heights under the leadership of these stalwarts, Dhawan spoke of the distinct styles the two leaders possess.

“Dhoni bhai is known for his calm and composed demeanor on the field, regardless of the match situation. This cool-headed approach has been a hallmark of his captaincy. Dhoni bhai is often praised for his instinctive decision-making. He trusts his cricketing instincts and has a knack for making the right calls,” Dhawan added.

On the other hand, speaking of Kohli, he said, “Virat Kohli has cultivated a youthful and energetic team environment. He encourages young talents and is willing to back them, providing opportunities for them to flourish.”
