Indian wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson took the internet by storm when he smashed his maiden T20I hundred in a match against Bangladesh at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on October 12. The right-hander scored 111 off 47 balls as India posted a mammoth total of 297/6. This was also an important innings for Samson after a series of low scores in the last fast games. The 29-year-old also shared his thoughts on his poor form and how head coach Gautam Gambhir supported.

After scoring a half-century in the fifth T20I against Zimbabwe, Sanju Samson was now included in India’s T20I squad for a three-match series in Sri Lanka, which was also Gautam Gambhir’s first assignment as India head coach. India won the series by 3-0 but it wasn’t a memorable outing for Samson as he registered two consecutive ducks in the series. He was again included in the Indian squad for the T20I series against Bangladesh where he scored 29 and 10 in first two games respectively before reaching the triple figures in the third T20I.

A player’s relationship with his coach is quite important: Sanju Samson

In his latest interview with journalist Vimal Kumar, Sanju Samson revealed how he couldn’t make eye contact with Gautam Gambhir after not being able to convert the chance and playing a big knock. He was also in joy when Gambhir clapped for him after the right-hander scored his maiden T20I century.

“A player’s relationship with his coach is quite important. When you get the coach’s backing, you want to repay the faith with performances. It was my wish to make him happy for all the chances I was being given. So when I was out early in one-odd match, I was trying to avoid eye-contact with him and waiting for my chance. So really happy when I struck a century and Gauti bhai was clapping for me,” Samson was quoted as saying by News18.
