Veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin called out foreign players in the Indian Premier League and demanded for a change ahead of the 2025 mega auction. The cricketer highlighted how foreign players decide to skip mega auctions and make themselves available for mini auctions, guaranteeing themselves a bigger paycheck. Not only this, but the spinning wizard called for a regulation to ensure no overseas player could earn more than the highest-paid Indian player.

Ashwin, on his YouTube channel said, “There is a new fun rule coming up that will change everything. I’m saying this clearly. What do the foreign players do? Today is mega auction. I am going to the farm in my city. Instead of coming to the auction, I’ll come to auction, I will come to the mini-auction to build a house in Sydney for mini-auction. Tomorrow, I am buying the Maldives. The day after tomorrow, I will buy a ship in Fiji.”

Ashwin, who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, continued, “They have come to the mini-auction so far. What they are saying is that the highest value of an Indian player is your value. You can go far as much as you want.”

There is nothing more unfair for a player than RTM: Ravichandran Ashwin

The 37-year-old, in the same video called out the RTM rule and said that it is the most unfair rule for a player. “There is nothing more unfair for a player than the RTM. Because how has the RTM rule has been so far? For an example, there is a player, X. He is on team Sunrisers. There is a player in the Sunrisers, whose value is around five to six crores. He went to an auction. SunRisers have to buy the player back. So, the SunRisers will bid for the player at a base price of two crore,” Ashwin said.

He continued, “KKR and the Mumbai Indians are bidding for the player, which is up to six crores. He was sold to the MI for six crores. So, SunRisers will bid for the player at six crore. The problem is that SunRisers are happy, other teams are unhappy. Kumudha is unhappy. The only person happy is SunRisers because for the first time they gave attendance. After that, there is no fair value at all. There is a bidder.”

He explained how the rule won’t give a fair value to the player, saying that he would only go empty-handed. The cricketer explained, “The KKR and MI are fighting. For a team, it has gone up to six crores. What does SRH say? You bought the player, right? Return the player. We will start again. Very unfair, because by this time SRH has to get fair value of the player. The problem with RTM is that it is not fair value to the player. So if you give three RTMs, the players will go empty-handed.”
