Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc reacted to Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal sledging him in the opening Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Notably, during the first game of the five-match series, Jaiswal made it to the headlines with his brilliant ton as well as sledging the star bowler. During India’s second innings in the Perth Test, Jaiswal defended a ball from Marsh and said that he was bowling too slow. Starc was seen laughing as he walked back to the bowling mark.

Ahead of the second Test, Starc spoke to Cricket Australia and opened up on the famous sledge from the first Test. He said that he didn’t hear the Indian batter saying that he was bowling too slow. Not only this, but he also said that he has become a lot calmer and doesn’t bother to give it back to people. The bowler said, "I didn't actually hear him say I bowl too slow. Yeah, I won't say too much to people these days. I may have back in the day, but now I just sort of get on with it.” He added, "He played that flick shot. I think I bowled pretty much the same ball and he defended it. I said, "Where's the flick shot?" and he just laughed at me. So, we just left it there.”

He'll play a lot of cricket for India and be highly successful: Starc heaps praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal

The senior left-arm quick heaped praise on the Indian batter and claimed that he will be a big player and play many games for India in the future. He also lauded Jaiswal’s second innings of the Perth Test and revealed that his adaptability left him impressed. Starc said, “No doubt he'll play a lot of cricket for India and be highly successful and he certainly played really well in that second innings. He's adapted to conditions through that first Test and obviously, we got him cheaply in the first innings and he adapted to that and played a fantastic innings.”

He added, "Full credit to him, he is one of the new crop of fearless, young cricketers around the world and someone we'll have to combat again here in Adelaide.” Notably, Jaiswal came up with a magnificent 161 off 297 as India posted a mammoth total of 487-6. The game saw India winning the match by a margin of 295 runs and getting an early lead of 1-0 in the series.
