Star England cricketer and former white-ball skipper of the side, Jos Buttler is currently in India, plying his trade for a new IPL franchise, Gujarat Titans. The England veteran, who had been a key member of the Rajasthan Royals setup till last season, was released ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction and then his services were acquired by GT for INR 15.75 Crore.

Although, the England opener is expected to play a crucial role in GT’s batting lineup, he was seen playing a 33-ball 54 against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahemdabad on Tuesday, March 25. Ahead of GT’s IPL 2025 opener, Buttler engaged in an interaction with Crick Fantasy Boss, where he spoke about the Impact Player Rule in the cash-rich league.

I would go without Impact Player rule in IPL: Jos Buttler

When asked about his thoughts on the impact substitute rule in the IPL, Buttler picked to go without it as he prefers the old school approach to go with 11 players. “If I had to choose one of the other, I would go without it. Having 11 a side and trying to balance your team or how valuable then an all-rounder becomes.” “For example they’re still really valuable in with the impact sub but it just extends your lineup even more,” he added, stating that “just being traditional and old school that crickets 11 aside and I would stick with that.”

It is to be noted that Jos Buttler’s statement was more or less similar to MS Dhoni’s opinions. “When this rule was implemented, I felt it wasn’t really needed at that time. In a way, it helps me, but at the same time, it doesn’t. I still do my wicket keeping, so I’m not an impact player. I have to be involved in the game,” MS Dhoni remarked in a chat with JioHotstar.
