Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma notched up his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) hundred in a high-scoring contest against Punjab Kings (PBKS), and he celebrated the moment in style by showing a “note” which read, “This one is for Orange Army”. In the post-match interview, his opening partner Travis Head claimed that the note was in his pocket for the first six matches of IPL 2025, but then, in the press conference, Abhishek Sharma rejected his teammate by saying that he wrote it on matchday.
It was in the pursuit of a massive 246-run target against PBKS at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad when Abhishek Sharma brought up his first IPL century in just 40 balls. The left-handed opening batter ended up scoring 141 runs in just 55 balls with 14 fours and 10 maximums, playing a key role in helping SRH chase down the runs with eight wickets in hand and nine balls to spare, bringing up their second win of the IPL 2025 season.
I wrote it today, itself, because I usually wake up and write something: Abhishek Sharma
While speaking in the post-match on the Star Sports show, Travis Head made a startling claim about Abhishek Sharma’s note celebration for his maiden IPL hundred in the presence of the host along with Ambati Rayudu and Michael Clarke. He said, “The note has been in the pocket of Abhishek Sharma for six games, glad it came out tonight”, and it led to big laughter from all four of them.
Although in the post-match press conference, Abhishek Sharma clarified how the note celebration came to be, essentially refuting what his opening partner Travis Head claimed earlier. He was quoted as saying, as per News18, “I wrote it today, itself, because I usually wake up and write something. I got a random thought that if I do something today, that would be for Orange Army. Luckily, today, I felt it was my day.”
“To be honest, I was sick for four days and had a temperature. I am grateful to have people like Yuvraj Singh and Suryakumar Yadav around me. They called me continuously because they knew I could do something like this," he further added.
