Team India could not finish on the right side at the T20 World Cup 2022 as they lost to England in the semifinals. However, the way the Men in Blue started their campaign at the showpiece event was one of the memorable moments for Indian fans. A win over Pakistan is always sweet but when it comes in a World Cup it’s sweeter. And from the position India were in, it was the icing on the cake.
India pulled off a heist against their arch-rivals and they had no one else to thank but Virat Kohli. The batter played a gem of an inning (82* off 53) to propel India to a victory. But it was not a free-flowing inning like Kohli plays usually. The batter had his fair share of struggles before he unleashed the big shots. Although Kohli and Pandya hit boundaries, the run rate was soaring high.
It all came down to 28 runs required off the last eight balls. Kohli was at the crease and Haris Rauf was in the middle of a terrific spell. The Pakistan pacer had only conceded three runs in the first four balls and the pressure was on Kohli. It was then the batter produced something magical as he hit two consecutive sixes to bring Pakistan down right to the turf.
Kohli hit a six straight down the ground on the fifth ball of the 19th over. It was a ridiculous shot, to say the least. With a decent pace behind the delivery and minimal room to free his arms, Kohli somehow managed to middle it and send the ball flying into the stands. Everyone was awe in of that shot and many are still in. Undoubtedly, it will go down as one of the best shots and as per International Cricket Council (ICC), it will probably go down as “the greatest single T20 shot of all time.”
While naming the top 5 game-changing moments of the T20 World Cup 2022, ICC described Kohli’s six against Rauf as the greatest single T20 shot. “But given the match situation, it was extraordinary; arguably the greatest single T20 shot of all time,” wrote ICC in its blog.
