The International Cricket Council (ICC) imposed a two-year ban on Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain from all forms of cricket. The ICC took action after the Bangla cricketer accepted the charges of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. Nasir was charged by the ICC in September 2023 and he admitted three charges, after which he received the ban along with a six-month suspension. Nasir last played an ODI for Bangaldesh back in 2018.
The charges against the player stem from incidents in Abu Dhabi in 2021, during the Abu Dhabi T10 League. Later, he and seven other individuals including players, officials, and team owners were accused of corruption-related activities. The charges include failing to disclose the receipt of a gift valued over $750, not reporting full details approaches, and refusing to cooperate with the investigation carried out by the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO).
The ICC released a statement and said, “Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain has been banned from all cricket after accepting charges of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. Hossain, who was charged by the ICC in September 2023, admitted to three charges, and has been handed a two-year ban, with six months suspended.”
As per the ICC, the cricketer admitted charges of breaching Article 2.4.3 of the Code, Article 2.4.4 of the Code, and Article 2.4.6 of the Code. Notably, Hosain played 115 matches for Bangladesh across different formats between 2011 and 2018, scoring 2695 runs with 39 wickets. Since then, he has featured regularly in domestic cricket, including the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League for Prime Bank Cricket Club.
