Team India skipper Rohit Sharma’s return to form comes as a boost seeing the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to be played from February 19 in Pakistan and the UAE. While several are expecting Rohit Sharma to continue his purple patch in the marquee tournament after he played a match-winning century knock of 119 runs off 90 deliveries.
Among many, former India cricketer and captain Mohammed Azharuddin also spoke of Rohit Sharma’s form. He opined that if the 37-year-old continues his good form, India will surely lift the Champions Trophy. It is to be noted that prior to the second ODI in Cuttack, Rohit Sharma was struggling, having scored only 166 runs in last 16 innings across formats.

Speaking with PTI after the second ODI, the former India captain wished Rohit Sharma success for the Champions Trophy. He said, "I wish him all the best for Champions Trophy. If Rohit Sharma clicks in Champions Trophy, there is no doubt about us winning it. His form has come at the right time." "He is a class player, the runs were deserting him, he kept going on yesterday. I heard he played really well yesterday and records are meant to be broken. I congratulate him on breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record and I want to wish him best for the Champions Trophy," Azharuddin further added.
It is to be noted that Rohit Sharma went onto scored his 32nd hundred in ODIs, which is most by an Indian after Virat Kohli (50) and Sachin Tendulkar (49). Moreover, Rohit Sharma also broke legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring most centuries after his 30th birthday.
The 62-year-old also spoke about Rohit Sharma’s retirement after a lot of questions were raised on the Indian skipper. The former India cricketer added that the call on retirement is completely Rohit Sharma’s decision, stating, “It’s up to Rohit to decide. A player who plays the game knows how intense it is.” The 37-year-old will return to action in the third ODI, set to be played on Wednesday, February 12 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
