Albie Morkel, the South African all-rounder, who is infamous for smashing Virat Kohli during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match, has agreed with the fans who chanted “Kohli ko bowling do!,” during the ODI World Cup 2023. The 42-year-old was in a conversation with Subramaniam Badrinath, where he spoke about how if Virat Kohli wants to bowl during the ongoing flagship tournament, then the Indian team management should give him that chance.
It was during the IPL 2012 match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, when Albie Morkel lit up the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, smashing Virat Kohli for 28 runs in the penultimate over of the run chase. At the very end, CSK managed to defeat RCB after Vinay Kumar conceded 15 runs in the last over.
Coming back to 2023, the rocking crowd at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai started the chant “Kohli ko bowling do!,” during Team India’s comprehensive win against Sri Lanka by 302 runs in the ODI World Cup. It led to Chennai Super Kings posting a conversation between Subramaniam Badrinath and Albie Morkel about the aforementioned chant, on Virat Kohli’s 35th birthday.
The video had Subramaniam Badrinath hilariously asking Albie Morkel, “I can’t get over that over that happened in Chepauk against RCB, so do you think Virat should bowl?”

He responded, “Some fear on him (Virat Kohli) you know. Unless he wants to bowl Badri, you know what it’s like, I am sure the captain won’t make a big call like that, but if Virat wants to bowl, give it to him. I think he can, I think he needs to bowl actually because, (I) often get social feeds, people will talk about that. It seems to me that’s the only thing people remember me for was that…. against Virat. I think he should bowl and come and redeem himself.”
