Top-ranked tennis star, Iga Swiatek on Friday, October 4 announced her decision to part ways with her coach, Tomas Wiktorowski. The Polish tennis player while making this announcement also clarified that it was done with a mutual agreement, ending their three-year stint together.

It is to be noted that during the three-year stint, Iga Swiatek won four of her five Grand Slam titles and also rose to the top of the women’s rankings. Wiktorowski joined Iga’s team at the end of 2021 season and helped her seal 19 of her 22 career titles. He ended his stint with Iga winning the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in July-August. 

Swiatek part ways with coach Tomas Wiktorowski

The 23-year-old Polish international took to Instagram to announce the split as she wrote, “After 3 years of the greatest achievements in my career, together with my coach Tomas Wiktorowski we decided to part way. I want to start with a big thank you and appreciating our work together.”

“Coach Wiktorowski joined my team for three seasons, when I strongly needed changes and a fresh approach to my game. His experience, analytical and strategic attitude and enormous knowledge about tennis helped us to achieve things I’ve never dreamed of only a few months after we started working together. Our main goal was to become No. 1 player in the world and coach Wiktorowski was the one who said it first,” she continued. 

“Coach, THANK YOU, I wish you all the best. I know that you would like to rest after these 3 years of hard work and traveling a lot and spending some well deserved time with your loved ones and I hope you’ll get what you need,” she concluded.

Iga Swiatek withdraws from Wuhan WTA 1000

Soon after parting ways with her coach, Tomas Wiktorowski, Swiatek also withdrew from the Wuhan WTA 1000 tournament, which is set to begin on Saturday, October 5. “After an important change in my sports team, I decided to withdraw from the tournament in Wuhan. I’m really sorry for fans in China and those who wait to see me play, but I hope you understand that I need some time,” she addressed.

It is to be noted that this decision from Swiatek comes after she earlier withdrew from the China Open WTA 1000 in Beijing citing “personal matters”. The 23-year-old hasn’t competed since losing to Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals of the US Open 2024.
