Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn on Friday, March 22 confirmed his return to SunRisers Hyderabad. The Protean legend, who continues to miss the 2024 edition revealed his decision to return for the Hyderabad-based outfit in a show with Star Sports.
Speaking on the show along with the likes of Steven Smith, Ambati Rayudu, Dale Steyn also confirmed that he was forced to take the decision to skip the 2024 edition due to his grandmother’s ill health. “I’m still not the former coach. I’m probably still the coach. I’m just going to take this year off as my grandmother fell ill and I have had to take the decision to stay home and look after her this IPL season,” the 40-year-old said.
“I’ll be back with SunRisers next year,” he further assured his return to the Indian Premier League.
Speaking of the 2023 edition, the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the toss and invited the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side to field first. On the back of quickfire knock (48 off 25 deliveries) from Anuj Rawat and a crucial unbeaten 38 from Dinesh Karthik, helped the Bengaluru-based franchise to post 173 runs on the board.
Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers for the Chennai Super Kings, who finished with the figures of 4/29 in his four over spell.
