Carlos Alcaraz, the Spanish tennis star, 21, won the Monte Carlo Masters after defeating Italian Lorenzo Musetti in a pulsating final, which went the distance with a scoreline of 3-6, 6-1, 6-0. It was the sixth ATP Masters 1000 title won by Carlos Alcaraz, and his first such success in more than a year after clinching the Indian Wells Masters title last year, while at the same time, it was the 18th title in his young career.
Notably, till the start of the second set, the final of the Monte Carlo Masters was a competitive one between Carlos Alcaraz and Lorenzo Musetti, giving the fans the hope of a grandstand finish in the third and final set. But then, Musetti, who had won the first set 6-3, started struggling with a leg injury, which allowed Alcaraz to take advantage of the situation, and clinch the final two sets 6-1 and 6-0, to become champion in the Monte Carlo clay for the first-time.

I'm really proud of myself how I've dealt with everything: Carlos Alcaraz
In the build-up to the French Open, where he won the title last year, Carlos Alcaraz will gain confidence with the Monte Carlo Masters success, especially after crashing out of Indian Wells and Miami on the hard courts without reaching the final. Although, before the second Grand Slam of the year, which is played on clay, comes around, there are two major clay court tournaments in Madrid and Rome, where he can also fine tune his preparations further.
After clinching the title in Monte Carlo, Carlos Alcaraz was quite happy with his performance, finding a way to get through the tough times earlier in the week. He was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “It's been a really difficult week with a lot of difficult situations. I'm really proud of myself how I've dealt with everything. It's been a really difficult month for me on the court and outside. Coming here and seeing how the whole hard work has paid off, I'm really happy.”
