India's woes of facing Australia in the final continued as the Boys in Blue suffered a massive 79-run loss in the U19 Cricket World Cup 2024. With this defeat, Team India lost its fifth final in the junior competition alongside winning five World Cups. The Aussies won the toss and started cautiously with the bat after losing Sam Konstas after an eight-ball duck.
But the remaining members of Australia's top four, Harry Dixon; captain Hugh Weibgen and Harjas Singh scored crucial to avoid an early collapse. Dixon (42) and Weibgen (48) posted a 78-run stand and then Singh joined in the party. The 19-year-old scored 55 while Oliver Peake added 46 to help Australia post a competitive 253-run total.
For India, Raj Limbani starred with a three-wicket haul while Naman Tiwari picked up two wickets while giving away 63 runs. Then in the second innings, the Boys in Blue also had a struggling start with all-rounder Arshin Kulkarni getting out after a score of three in six balls.
Then Adarsh Singh and Musheer Khan tried rebuilding the Indian innings before Khan perished at a score of 22 in 33 balls. Soon the captain, Uday Shahran, also got out, opening the floodgates for an Indian collapse. Mahli Beardman emerged as the top performer with the ball as he picked up three wickets while giving away 15 runs in his seven overs. Opener Adarsh Singh scored 47 in 77 balls while all-rounder Murugan Abhishek added 42 with the tail but India fell short by 79runs to settle for another loss against Australia in the final.
