Indian star pacer Jasprit Bumrah picked nine wickets in both innings to guide the home side to register a 106-run win over England in the second Test. With this victory, the home favourites now level the series 1-1, after having lost the opening match by 28 runs. After a thrilling opener in Hyderabad, the caravan moved to ACA VDCA Stadium in Vizag on February 2. Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and let the guests bowl first.

Batting first didn’t seem to be a good choice as the entire batting lineup failed, including star names like Shubman Gill. However, it was then opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who held his nerves and didn’t let the spot lose to become the third youngest batter to score a double century. Owing to Jaiswal’s brilliant 209, India posted a mammoth total of 396 runs for their guests to chase.

England, in return, started on a decent note as Zak Crawley contributed 76 runs off 78 deliveries. However, Indian bowlers including the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel proved to be dangerous and went on to wrap their rivals at 253. With a lead of 143 runs, India continued their momentum in the second innings, and it was Shubman Gill who emerged as the team’s guiding light. Another emerging batting sensation, Gill posted 104 runs and helped India post 255 runs, extending their lead to 398 runs.

Ben Stokes and Co. needed 399 runs by the end of the second innings, and while Zak Crawley tried his best to help his side come on top, Indian bowlers had some other plans. Jasprit Bumrah picked up another three wickets in the second innings to complete a nine-wicket haul. He was accompanied by Ravichandran Ashwin’s three wickets to guide the home side to a 106-run win. With this, India has now levelled the series 1-1 and will aim to extend their lead as the action now moves to Rajkot for the third Test.
