In the ongoing fourth Test between India and England at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi, it was Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel who reached his maiden Test fifty. The 23-year-old UP-born keeper-batter did a low-key salute celebration soon after reaching his maiden Test half-century on Day 3 of the fourth Test.
While he raised his bat towards the dressing room, he thereafter did a salute as a tribute to his father. This emotional gesture from Jurel was a tribute to his father, Nem Chand Jurel. The latter, who is a retired Havaldar, served the nation during the Kargil war in 1999. The Indian cricketer’s salute was a tribute as well as a powerful symbol of gratitude and respect for his father’s sacrifice and dedication.
Earlier on the eve of his Test debut, Dhruv dedicated this moment to his father. “If I get the Indian cap, I would like to dedicate this moment to my father. Because he’ my hero. Whenever I just fail to understand something, I just talk to him, and he always guides me,” Jurel said on BCCI.tv.
