On day three of the first Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the Indian bowlers bundled out the visitors, New Zealand at the score of 402 in 91.3 overs. With Devon Conway giving a quick start to the Kiwis with his 105-ball 91, Rachin Ravindra played a crucial century knock to help the side put up a mammoth total on the board. The Kiwis also posted a 356-run with the 400-plus score on their board.

For the unversed, Rohit Sharma & Co. earlier won the toss and opted to bat first. The hosts were bundled out for a mere 46, registering their lowest total at home in the longest format of the game. While wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant was the top-scorer for the side, adding 20 runs off 49 deliveries, Matt Henry starred with the ball, picking up five wickets along with William ORourke (4/22) and Tim Southee (1/8).

New Zealand take 356-run lead on Day 3 of the first Test

New Zealand scored 402/10 in 91.3 overs as India dismissed the Kiwis lineup just minutes after lunch on Day 3 of the ongoing first Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. With this, New Zealand posted a 356-run lead, the fifth highest by a visiting team against India in India. The 490-run lead which West Indies posted at the Eden Garden in Kolkata in 1958 remains the highest lead taken by a team against India in India in Test cricket.

During New Zealand’s innings, Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee stitched the joint highest eighth wicket or lower partnership for New Zealand against India, equalling the partnership that was stitched between D Nash and D Vettori in Wellington in 1998. After a soft dismissal of Southee, the New Zealand line-up fell like a pack of cards with wickets falling in quick succession.

Among the Indian bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj got two, whereas Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin took solitary wickets each.
