The Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored a breathtaking fifty at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, to help his team secure an emphatic win by seven wickets in the ODI World Cup 2023. On Saturday, October 14, it was the Indian bowlers, who delivered a quality performance as a unit, to skittle out Pakistan for 191 within 43 overs in the first half of the match.

After a glittering in-stadia ceremony for the India versus Pakistan contest, Rohit Sharma won the toss to put Pakistan into batting first. The opening pair of Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq provided a steady start to the Men in Green in the first powerplay stage.

But, Mohammed Siraj picked up the first wicket of Abdullah Shafique lbw for 24 off 26 balls, before Hardik Pandya got Imam-ul-Haq for 34 off 36 balls, nicking it through to the wicket-keeper KL Rahul. At 73-2 in the 13th over, Mohammad Rizwan joined Babar Azam in the middle to stitch together a partnership of 85 runs for the third wicket.

When Babar Azam was castled for 50 off 58 balls by Mohammed Siraj, the batting lineup of Pakistan crumbled in front of some impressive bowling from the Men in Blue. They were bundled out for 191 runs in 42.5 overs, with five of the Indian bowlers picking up two wickets each.

In the run chase, the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill hit a flurry of boundaries against the Pakistan bowlers, to get the initial jitters out of the way. Although Shubman Gill and Virat Kohil were dismissed for 16 each by Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali, the captain of Team India continued on his merry ways with the bat in hand.

Rohit Sharma smashed six fours and six maximums at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, putting together an innings of 86 off just 63 balls, to put India on the brink of a victory. Shreyas Iyer put the finishing touches on the impressive day for the Men in Blue, staying 53 not out in 62 balls alongside KL Rahul, who stayed unbeaten on 19 off 29 balls.
