The India Women are taking on Sri Lanka Women in gold medal match of the Asian Game 2023. The Women in Blue, who entered the tournament in the quarterfinals, based on the ICC T20I Rankings opted to bat first after winning the toss. While Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues scored the maximum runs for the side with a 46 and 42-run knock respectively to put 116 runs on the board.

While the Sri Lanka Women scalped crucial wickets at regular intervals, it was skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s wicket which grabbed the eyeballs. Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Sanjeewani flew towards her right to collect the ball in air to dismiss the Indian skipper at the score of 4 in what her maiden outing at the Games .

Later as the Indian inning progressed, the Sri Lanka wicketkeeper produced another MS Dhoni-like run out to complete the seventh wicket for her side in the penultimate over.
After a brilliant batting display on the sluggish pitch, the Sri Lanka Women now need to score 117 runs to clinch the gold. It is to be noted that the Sri Lanka Women have earlier secured a bronze in women’s cricket, whereas India Women are making their maiden appearance at the quadrennial event.
