The Indian cricket team’s next red-ball assignment is due in June 2025, when they will tour England for a 5 match test series, their first of the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. In preparation for the highly anticipated five-match Test series against England, the India A team is scheduled to play three four-day fixtures against the England team as per reports. These matches will serve as vital warm-up encounters, allowing Indian players to acclimatize to English conditions and fine-tune their skills before the main series kicks off.
The warm-up series will take place after the conclusion of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), which ends on May 25, and before the Test series, which begins on June 20, 2025. Although the exact dates and venues for the warm-up matches have yet to be officially confirmed, they are expected to be held in different locations across England, providing players with exposure to varying pitch conditions.
Can India shrug off their recent poor test performances
The recent test performances of the Indian team have been very disappointing. India ended their 12-year test series winning streak on home soil after a rather embarrassing 3-0 whitewash to New Zealand. Later, they went to Australia to take part in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. And that series did not end too well for the Indian side as they lost 3-1. Since then there has been a question about the level of preparedness of the key players of the Indian team specially because they have not really been playing any multi-day cricket outside of test matches.
The last India test tour of England, also known as the Pataudi Trophy, ended in a 2-2 draw in 2021. With such dismal recent performances in test matches, the Indian team will be eager to bounce back strongly and produce good results in this upcoming test series. With a demanding Test series on the horizon, these warm-up games will help India fine-tune their combinations, assess the form of their players, and gain valuable match fitness in English conditions.
