Rohit Sharma-led India had an aberration to their T20 World Cup campaign as they lost to South Africa in their third game of the tournament. India lost to the Proteas in all three departments but it was not a one-sided game at all. After posting 133/8 in their 20 overs, Indian bowlers did a terrific job to take the game to the 20th over. However, a few missed chances in the field meant South Africa eased past India’s target with five wickets left.
The loss also meant Pakistan’s qualification chances were severely dented. Pakistan desperately needed India to beat South Africa if they are to qualify for the semifinals. However, it did not happen and Pakistan fans were left disappointed. Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar was also disappointed with the result as he spoke in his review video.
Akhtar said he was left disappointed with the result as all Pakistanis had their hopes pinned on their neighbours. However, he also clarified that Pakistan played bad cricket and hurt themselves. “India ne marwa diya humein (India just spoiled our chances). Actually, we hurt ourselves. It’s not India’s fault, we played so badly and left our fate to others. I was wishing India would come strong and hard,” said Akhtar on his YouTube channel.
“Playing over these pitches isn’t easy and India left us very disappointed. Had their batters been a bit more patient and not hurried, then 150 would have been a winning total. But South Africa used their experienced players very well. Miller the killer, bringing all his experience along with Markram was fantastic. Lungi Ngidi did wonders; not much pace but he got wickets with short balls and seam as well.”
“But from now onwards, Pakistan’s chances are very limited. I said earlier that South Africa is out there to beat India and Pakistan at the same time. But I was wishing that somehow India come out victorious and we get a chance. But ab to ye lag raha hai South Africa humein bhi phenti lagane ko taiyyar hoga (But now it seems that South Africa is ready to thrash us as well).”
