After clinching their eighth Asia Cup title on Sunday, Team India will look to bolster their ODI World Cup chances with a three-match home ODI series against the mighty Australia. India and Australia will face each other in the bilateral 50-over format series from Friday, September 22 to Wednesday, September 27. Ahead of the series, a BCCI official has revealed that the Men in Blue will assemble in Mohali on Wednesday.
India thrashed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets and 263 balls remaining in the Asia Cup 2023 final to win their record eighth title and improved their title difference with Sri Lanka with two more continental championships.
While the players will be given a short break to enjoy a couple of days with their families and loved ones, the India team for the Australia series will be picked on Wednesday. "There will be individual departures… most likely players will head back home before ODIs versus Australia. The team will be picked soon for the series and boys will be asked to assemble in Mohali on September 20," said the official.
Team India will be looking after the fitness of their star players Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel as skipper Rohit Sharma updated about the injuries of the two players after winning the Asia Cup 2023 title. While Iyer will return to the squad for the Australia series, the all-rounder's injury is severe and doubtful for the upcoming three-match ODI series.
On the other hand, Australia have already announced their 18-member squad for the three-match ODI series in India. Steven Smith, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Glenn Maxwell are the senior players who returned to the Australian squad after missing the South Africa series.
