Australian skipper Pat Cummins and batter Steven Smith are set to make a comeback in the squad for the first ODI against India. On the other hand, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell have been ruled out of the squad for the first game. Notably, India will host Australia in a three-match ODI series commencing on September 22, where the first game will be played at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali.
Ahead of the first game, the Australian skipper Pat Cummins shared updates about the fitness of his teammates like Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell, and Steve Smith. Cummins said that while Smith is set to make his comeback in the team now, Maxell and Starc will miss the first match. Notably, Smith will return to the squad after being ruled out in the recently-concluded series against South Africa.

The Aussie skipper said, "We have got plenty of people at different stages. I am feeling pretty good, my wrist is all healed now, 100 per cent. I was running around at the nets this afternoon. I hope to play tomorrow. Hoping to play all 3 games.”
He went on to say, "Trying to think of a long list. Starc is here, (but) he won't play tomorrow. But hopefully, he will be available later on the series. Yeah, he won't play tomorrow. But I hope he will come on and play a part later on. He had been bowling in Sydney. He will bowl today or tomorrow. We are all tracking him. The time frame is similar for Maxwell.”
