The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Tuesday, June 25 announced the updated schedule of the upcoming Women’s Asia Cup 2024. The 2024 edition of the tournament, which will be played in the T20 format, will be played from July 19 till 28 July, 2024. Moreover, the top eight cricketing nations in Asia will fight for the coveted title in Sri Lanka.
Speaking of the updated schedule, the India versus Pakistan match, which was earlier scheduled to take place on July 21, will now be played on July 19, the opening day of the tournament. Whereas on July 21 now, India will play the United Arab Emirates (UEA), while Pakistan will take on Nepal in the second match of the day.
The ACC took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the updated schedule of the upcoming tournament. “Here is the update schedule for the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2024. Brace yourselves for an action-packed tournament featuring the top 8 women’s cricket teams in Asia. Mark your calendars, as it is going to kick off on July 19th, 2024, in Dambulla, Sri Lanka,” the Asian Cricket Council stated.
It is to be further noted that it will be the first time in the history of the tournament that it will feature eight teams, which is one more than the previous edition. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals, with the winners playing the final on July 28.
Team India is placed in group A alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, Nepal and the UAE, whereas Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Thailand make the Group B. The 2022 edition of the Women’s Asia Cup was held in Bangladesh, when India won their seventh title. The Women in Blue defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the final in 2022.
