The Indian women’s cricket team will play a tri-nation ODI tournament with Sri Lanka and South Africa in the coming months. The tri-series will be played from April 27 onwards with the final scheduled for May 11. The matches in this tri-series are going to be hosted by Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. it will serve as a good preparatory series for all the three teams before the build-up to the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup scheduled in October 2025 in India, since they will get some more exposure of playing in the sub-continent conditions.
During the period of this tri-series, the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers are also going to take place in Pakistan. Since all of these teams have already secured their spot in the upcoming World Cup, they will not take part in this qualifier tournament.
Summary of recent outings for India, Sri Lanka, and South Africa
The Indian women’s cricket team recently came off a 3-0 series victory against the Ireland in January 2025 that was played in Rajkot. While most of the players of the Indian team are currently playing in the WPL, this tri-series will serve as a good opportunity for the time to buckle up for the upcoming ICC Women's World Cup. As for the Sri Lankan women’s cricket team, they are currently touring New Zealand to play three ODIs and three T20Is. They will also look to gear up for the World Cup and try and get something out of the home advantage that they have for this tri-series.
Meanwhile, the South African women’s cricket team was playing England at their home in what was a month-long series consisting of three T20Is, three ODIs, and a one-off Test. Sadly, they were able to get victory in only one of these seven matches and will look to make some amends to the tri-series against quality opponents like India and Sri Lanka.
