The Indian golfers, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar, have qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on the basis of the Road to Paris world rankings. Earlier, Aditi Ashok was expected to be the lone women’s golf player from India to be a part of Paris Olympics, but now Diksha Dagar will join her after a late withdrawal by a golfer from South Africa.
Notably, during the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Aditi Ashok missed out a first medal in golf for India after finishing in fourth place in the women’s competition. Meanwhile, Diksha Dagar, who has represented India at the Olympics and Deaflympics, first golfer in history to do so, will be looking to improve on her performance in Paris in comparison to her showing in Tokyo three years ago.
As per the report from The Bridge, the top 15 players in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) qualify for the Olympics, limiting the number to four players per country. Meanwhile, beyond the top 15, the OWGR includes a maximum of two highest-ranked eligible players from each country, but the same country shouldn’t have two or more players within the top 15.
With that, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar, who are ranked 60th and 164th in the OWGR, made the cut for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
They will be joining Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar, making it four players representing India in golf at the Paris Olympics. The two Indian men’s golf players secured their spot in the multi-sporting games by virtue of being the high-ranked players from the country on the rankings chart.
