Jasprit Bumrah, one of the best fast bowlers in the world, is set to make his long-awaited return to the Indian cricket team in the upcoming T20I series against Ireland in August. Bumrah has been out of action since September 2020 due to a back injury that required surgery. He missed several important tournaments for India, including the Asia Cup, the ICC T20 World Cup, and the World Test Championship final.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, Bumrah has recovered well from his injury and is looking forward to playing competitive cricket again. He has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru under the guidance of VVS Laxman.
Although Rohit Sharma doubted Bumrah’s comeback saying, “Jasprit Bumrah is an experienced bowler. However, I am not sure of him playing in the Ireland series. We haven’t decided anything on his comeback.” There is still optimism around his return to the squad as BCCI had stated a month ago that he was bowling at "full intensity" in the nets. Since then, there is no news of relapse of any kind which has increased the hopes.

Ireland series will be a good opportunity for Bumrah to regain his rhythm and confidence before the bigger challenges ahead. India will play three T20Is against Ireland on August 18, 20, and 23 in Dublin and the series will also mark the comeback of Shreyas Iyer, who was out due to a shoulder injury.
Bumrah's return will be a huge boost for the Indian team, which has struggled to find a consistent and effective pace attack in his absence. Bumrah has been a key performer for India across formats, with 128 wickets in 30 tests, 121 wickets in 72 ODIs, and 70 wickets in 60 IPL matches. The 29-year-old is widely regarded as one of the most lethal and versatile bowlers in the world, with his ability to swing the ball both ways, bowl yorkers at will, and generate pace and bounce.
