Former South African pacer Dale Steyn said that International cricketers know how to put their egos aside. Steyn spoke at an exclusive Star Sports event where he was asked how challenging it would be for Hardik Pandya to lead Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, and how Rohit Sharma will play under Pandya’s captaincy. Notably, the five-time IPL winners dropped a shock bomb on fans and followers by dropping Rohit Sharma and replacing him with Hardik Pandya as Mumbai’s captain.

Steyn, who requested SunRisers Hyderabad, to give him some break from his duties as a bowling coach ahead of IPL 2024, said, “I hope they have some sort of camp a month before the IPL, so anything that’s bothering anyone kind of gets ironed before the first game.” He added, “As the tournament gets going, one needs to see if there are any cracks. These guys know how to play cricket for a long time and they are international cricketers. They know how to put their ego aside.”

Steyn went on to say, “As the tournament goes on, they play professionally, they are Mumbai and they will be totally fine.”

It will be challenging: Dale Steyn on Hardik Pandya leading Mumbai Indians

The former Proteas cricketer said that Pandya leading Mumbai will be full of challenges. Steyn said, “It will be challenging for sure. You have got big personalities, guys who have done the job before. When it comes to making decisions about what tactics to use, there might be little needle that we might not be able to see or hear on TV. But these things get ironed as the competition goes on.”

Notably, Mumbai Indians will open their campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 24 in the 17th edition of the IPL 2024.
