The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has decided to send wrestler Antim Panghal and her support staff from Paris Olympics 2024 due to disciplinary breach at the ongoing Summer Games. Panghal was found giving her Olympic Village accreditation to her sister, which was brought to IOA’s attention by French Authorities. The event comes after she lost to Zeynep Yetgil of Turkey in the women’s 53 kg freestyle round of 16.
The French authorities complained to the IOA that Panghal gave her accreditation to her sister to help her enter the Olympic Games Village. The Indian body sprung into action after the embarrassing incident and confirmed of flying Panghal and her team back to India. The IOA informed, “The Indian Olympic Association has decided to fly wrestler Antim and her support staff back after a disciplinary breach was brought to IOA’s notice by the French authorities.”
Not only this, but according to the Indian Express, Antim’s coaching staff, including coaches Bhagat Singh and Vikas got into another police case. As per the report, they took a cab from the Village to their hotel on Wednesday. Upon reaching the hotel, they refused to pay the cab driver and misbehaved with him before rushing into the hotel. The sources added that the cab driver approached the police after the incident.
It is to be noted that, Antim made her Olympics 2024 debut in the 53kg category, which was the pet weight class of Vinesh Phogat. Panghal was considered as one of India’s medal prospects, but she lost in a one-sided opening bout with a score line of 0-10 in just 101 seconds.
