The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have retained their major core of players from the previous season ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. However, the franchise opted to release big players like Ben Stokes, who however will be unavailable for IPL 2024. Ambati Rayudu, who announced retirement after winning the IPL trophy for the sixth time in 2023 will also remain out after the franchise released him.

CSK had a total purse of INR 31.4 Crores before start of auction.
They had a maximum of six slots available for the IPL 2024 auction out of which three are for overseas players.
