The IPL 2024 Auction saw the West Indies batter and T20I skipper Rovman Powell become the first to go under the hammer. The West Indian, who was slotted in Set 1 of the IPL 2024 Auction for a base price of INR 1 Crore, was finally acquired by the inaugural champions, Rajasthan Royals for a sum of INR 7.40 Crore after a bidding war with Kolkata Knight Riders.

The two franchises were involved in a bidding war to kickstart the auction on the high, but the RR finally roped him for a whopping sum. Apart from Powell, Harry Brook was the next player to get roped in by Delhi Capitals for INR 4 Crore, while the ODI World Cup 2023 final Player of the Match, Travis Head was roped in by SRH for INR 6.80 Crore.
The West Indies batter is currently leading the side in the five-match T20I series against England. While the Powell-led side is currently 2-1 up in the series after winning the first two games.
