Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Faf du Plessis has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 36 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 21, 2024. RCB lost the seventh of their eight matches this season and are placed at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table.
As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, the South African was fined INR 12 Lac.
Talking about the match, Kolkata Knight Riders pulled off a thrilling one-run win over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday at the Eden Gardens. With Phil Salt giving a brisk start, Shreyas Iyer and Rinku Singh's quick 40-run stand in the middle, and the duo of Andre Russell and Ramandeep Singh helped KKR post a massive 222-run total.
During the chase, Virat Kohli was given a controversial out while the RCB openers were sent back to the pavilion in 3.1 overs. However, Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar scored quick half-centuries and combined for a 102-run partnership. In the end, Kolkata were certainly on top but Karan Sharma's 20 in seven balls with three sixes nearly turned the game for RCB, however, KKR bowlers managed to clinch the win.
