The final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is reportedly scheduled to happen at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on a tentative date of May 26. The venue will also host the Qualifier 2 of the IPL, while the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is likely to get two playoff matches, including the Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator.
As per the report from Times of India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will continue its tradition of giving the final and the first match of the new IPL season to the home venue of the reigning champions. Since Chennai Super Kings were the champions in 2023, they have already played the opening match of the new season at their home venue of MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai, while the final of the IPL 2024 is expected to come their way too.
A BCCI official was quoted as saying about the matter to PTI, “The IPL Governing Council has followed the tradition of holding the opening game and final at the home venue of last year's defending champions - in this case Chennai Super Kings.”
The Narendra Modi Stadium (Motera) in Ahmedabad had the honour of hosting the final of the IPL in the last two seasons. In the 2022 edition, the tournament wasn’t played in the home and away format, which saw the Gujarat Titans secure the title, following which they got the final as per the BCCI tradition.
Now, the biggest cricket stadium in India is very much in line to host Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator of the IPL 2024.
Moreover, the BCCI has decided upon the schedule for the remainder of the IPL 2024, while keeping the Indian general election dates in mind, and it is expected to be released very soon.
