Shreyas Iyer hit a massive six to guide the side to a seven-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2024. Faf du Plessis-led side hosted the Kolkata Knight Riders at their home M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on March 29, Friday. Shreyas Iyer, the KKR skipper won the toss and invited the hosts to put score on the board first. Bengaluru got their first shock of the night when skipper and opener Faf du Plessis was forced to walk back at a negligible score of eight runs.

While Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell played decent innings, giving hope to the home side, their batting sensation Virat Kohli once again stood by the team’s side. The former RCB skipper remained on the field during the entire innings and contributed pivotal 83* runs from the bat. Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted a total of 182 runs with the loss of six wickets.

Kolkata, who seemed to have been on the submissive side in the first innings, got off to a decent start. Philip Salt played a knock of 30 runs off 20 deliveries, and Sunil Narine accompanied him. Narine contributed crucial 47 runs, and just when he was about to record a half-century, Mayank Dagar dismissed him and was forced to return to the hut.

The gap between the KKR’s score and the target was further narrowed, owing to Venkatesh Iyer’s significant 50 and captain Iyer’s 39-off-24. KKR would have won it much earlier, had not Yash Dayal’s delivery caught him out. However, the guests were just a few runs short when their finisher Rinku Singh joined the skipper to guide the team to a win.

Iyer sealed the deal and finished the game with a powerful six to help the side secure their second win by seven wickets. With the victory, the two-time IPL winners ended the home streak and became the first team to win an away match in the IPL 2024.
