Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill has been penalised after his team maintained slow over-rate during Match 59 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 10.
Notably, it was GT skipper’s second offence of the season and thus Gill has been fined INR 24 Lakh along with other members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player also being issued a fine of either INR 6 Lakh or 25 per cent of the match fee, whichever is less.
Speaking of the match, the Gujarat Titans were invited to bat first from the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Chennai Super Kings. The GT opening pair of Gill and Sai Sudharsan stitched a crucial 210-run partnership to help the side put up a commanding total on the board. With 231 runs from stipulated 20 overs, it proved to be enough for the Titans to seal a win.
The GT bowlers continued their dominance with the ball as they took crucial wickets at regular intervals to finally restrict the reigning champions under 200 and eventually seal a win by 35 runs to stay alive in the race to the IPL 2024 playoffs.
The Shubman Gill-led Titans will next take on the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday, May 13, while the Chennai Super Kings will host the Rajasthan Royals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, May 12.
