Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who are the defending Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, are set to play the opening match of the 2025 season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, March 22. Ahead of the highly anticipated clash between two of the most sought-after teams in the IPL, the focus is firmly and squarely on big stars like Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell, among others.
These two teams played the opening match in the history of the IPL way back in 2008 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, when Brendon McCullum lit up the tournament with a century in KKR colours. Since then, the Knight Riders have had an upper hand over the Royal Challengers in the league’s history, winning 20 out of 34 matches against them.

The probability of precipitation on Saturday, March 22, stands at 90% and humidity stands at 81%, indicating a huge threat of rain in the contest especially with the Orange alert issued for the city.
During KKR’s first match of the new IPL season in Kolkata against RCB, there will be wind gusts of around 22 km/h in the evening, which could help in taking the rain showers away from the venue. If not, then the fans could expect some interruption in play at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on a Saturday night in the league’s opener.
