The highly anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction, which will decide the fate of 574 shortlisted players, is currently underway at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With just 204 slots up for grabs, including 70 overseas ones, only a select few out of 366 Indian and 208 overseas players will be picked by the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams for the 2025 season. David Warner, the Australian opening batsman, who retired from international cricket recently, has gone unsold in the mega auction.
Notably, David Warner has an impressive career in the IPL, while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals. However, he was recently released by Delhi Capitals. He captained SRH during their maiden tournament win in 2016. It was in this title-winning season when Warner came into his own as an left-handed destructive batsman, scoring 848 runs at an strike rate of 151.42.
David Warner's journey in IPL
David Warner began his IPL journey in 2009. Over the years, his ability to score big runs at a decent strike-rate made him one of the most sought-after players in the T20 format. He has played 184 matches in his IPL career, scoring 6,565 runs at an average of 40.52. He has also slammed four centuries and 62 half-centuries. In his IPL career to date, he has hit 663 fours and 236 sixes.
His best knock in the IPL was against KKR, smashing 126* runs in 59 balls. Although he is a left-handed batsman, his quickness to switch into a left-handed batter, to suprise the bowlers is widely impressive to say the least. Moreover, his last IPL match against Bangalore was quite a letdown, where he scored just 1 run off 2 balls.
