The highly anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction, which will decide the fate of 574 shortlisted players, is currently underway at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With just 204 slots up for grabs, including 70 overseas ones, only a select few out of 366 Indian and 208 overseas players will be picked by the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams for the 2025 season. Kane Williamson, former New Zealand captain, who is one of the top players in world cricket, has gone unsold in the auction.
Notably, Kane Williamson couldn't play much of the last two IPL seasons due to constant injuries. He was signed for Gujarat Titans in the 2023 season for INR 2 Cr. For the IPL 2025 mega auction, his base price was INR 2 Cr. Kane Williamson made his IPL debut in 2015, and has played for SRH fo many years, last time in 2022 for INR 14 Crore contract. However, for the last two seasons of the IPL when he played for Gujarat Titans, they had picked him for INR 2 Crore only.
Kane Williamson has quite impressive statistics in T20I and IPL level, which could have made him a promising player for any team. His batsmanship is exceptional, as evidenced by his ability to score runs in a variety of conditions and formats apart from captaining teams in the shortest format of the game, but his injury concerns in recent times didn't work in his favour as far as getting a gig in the league.
Former New Zealand captain has played 79 IPL matches and scored 2128 runs with an average of 35.47. He has slammed 18 half-centuries in the league, and the highest score is 89 runs which came in the 2018 season. This was the best year for Kane WIlliamson in the IPL when he scored 735 runs. In the last IPL season, he appeared only in two matches, scoring just 27 runs.
