The highly anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction, which will decide the fate of 577 shortlisted players, is currently underway at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With just 204 slots up for grabs, including 70 overseas ones, only a select few out of 367 Indian and 210 overseas players will be picked by the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams for the 2025 season. Avesh Khan, who is one of the sought after Indian players in the mega auction, has been signed by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 9.75 Crore.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Rajasthan Royals had a lot of top players to retain, but only six players were allowed as per the new rules, which meant that they had to part ways with Avesh Khan. The right-arm fast bowler, who registered himself for INR 2 Crore base price, provides great variety to a bowling attack with his ability to find movement with the new ball, but his strength lies in delivering key overs at the death, including the effective utilisation of slower balls and yorkers.
Avesh Khan's IPL Record
In the 2017 season of the IPL, Avesh Khan made his league debut in Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) colours, picking up a wicket of Sanju Samson, who was playing for Delhi Capitals (DC) at the time. In the next season, DC signed Avesh Khan, and from 2018 to 2020, he got only six matches in the IPL before his fortunes suddenly turned in the 2021 season, picking up 24 wickets in 16 matches for the franchise.
During their inaugural season of the IPL in 2022, Lucknow Super Giants picked up Avesh Khan from the auction for INR 10 Crore, and he played a big role in taking them to the playoffs in back-to-back years with his 26 wickets in 22 matches. Rajasthan Royals got a trade deal done for the 27-year-old ahead of the IPL 2024 season, which was quite a fruitful one for him, taking 19 wickets in 16 matches, which helped them reach the playoffs.
