The highly anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction, which will decide the fate of 577 shortlisted players, is currently underway at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With just 204 slots up for grabs, including 70 overseas ones, only a select few out of 367 Indian and 210 overseas players will be picked by the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams for the 2025 season.
Deepak Chahar, who is one of the sought-after Indian players in the mega auction, has been signed by Mumbai Indians for INR 9.25 Cr. Amid an intense war between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), Deepak Chahar's former franchise, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also joined the race at a crucial juncture but due to a restricted price purse, dropped out of the race with Mumbai Indians bagging his services for INR 9.25 Cr.
Deepak Chahar's IPL Career
After being released by Chennai Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Deepak Chahar registered himself for a base price of INR 2 Crore, following which the organising committee listed him in the Set No. 16 capped fast bowlers 2. The 32-year-old is known for his right arm medium swing bowling. He has the ability to swing the ball both ways during the powerplay and is also effective in the middle and death overs.
Deepak Chahar began his IPL journey in 2016 with Rising Pune Supergiant, playing five matches across two seasons. He joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2018 and became a key player, taking 71 wickets in 68 games for the franchise before IPL 2024. His best season was in 2019, with 22 wickets in 17 matches, finishing third on the Purple Cap list.
In total, Chahar has played 81 IPL matches and taken 77 wickets. He has won three IPL titles with CSK in 2018, 2021, and 2023. Chahar was CSK’s second-most expensive buy at the IPL 2022 auction for INR 14 crore but missed the season due to a back injury.
