The highly anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction, which will decide the fate of 577 shortlisted players, is currently underway at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With just 204 slots up for grabs, including 70 overseas ones, only a select few out of 366 Indian and 208 overseas players will be picked by the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams for the 2025 season. Talking about latest updates, Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh was the first pick at the mega auction with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) kickstarting the proceedings with a INR 2 Cr bid.
After starting the bid, Delhi Capitals (DC) joined them for the bid. A tough war between the Capitals and Kings, saw Gujarat Titans (GT) join the bandwagon. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and SunRisers Hybderabad (SRH) also joined the war. Things escalated as Punjab Kings (PBKS) were finally asked for their Right To Match (RTM) card, with the help of which the Punjab-based franchise secured the services of Arshdeep Singh for INR 18 Cr.
Arshdeep Singh was one of the most anticipated names in the mega auction for after he was released by Punjab Kings during players retention for IPL 2025. The left-arm pacer had a great year with the ball, finishing as a highest wicket-taker in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The fast bowler took 17 wickets in eight matches as India clinched the title after 17 years. Apart from that, Arshdeep Singh also became the second highest wicket taker in T20Is for India with 95 scalps in 60 matches.

Arshdeep Singh began his IPL career in 2019 after Punjab Kings (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab) acquired his services for INR 20 Lakhs in the auction. The fast bowler is now all-time second highest wicket-taker for PBKS with 76 scalps in 65 matches. Now, the 25-year-old is set start a new innings in his IPL career with Punjab Kings and will look to play a crucial role for the franchise in IPL 2025.
