Former India skipper, Sourav Ganguly, recently made headlines by his bizarre remark of ‘winning IPL trophy is more difficult than winning World Cup’ after India’s defeat in World Test Championship Final 2023. The former BCCI President has once again come into notice as he mistakenly referred to the interviewer as India star Virat Kohli. The India legend immediately corrected himself, but the video has gone viral on social media. This is the same interview where Ganguly defended Team India’s defeat at the WTC Final.

In the video, the India icon, affectionately called ‘Dada’, could be seen praising Rohit Sharma and mentioning his five IPL wins. Not only this, but Ganguly was also seen showing full faith in the India skipper. In an interview with Aaj Tak, Ganguly said, "I have full faith in Rohit. He and MS Dhoni have won 5 IPL titles. Winning the IPL isn't easy because it's a tough tournament. Winning the IPL is more difficult than winning a World Cup as there are 14 matches after which you take part in the playoffs. In the World Cup, it takes only 4-5 matches for a place in the semis. In the IPL, it takes 17 matches for you to become champions.”

In the interview with journalist Vikrant Gupta, Ganguly also talked about how Rohit was the best captaincy candidate after Virat Kohli stepped down from the position. Ganguly, who holds the position of Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals, also added that Rohit is still the best person to lead the Indian side.

Notably, this was the second time India team finished in the top two of the WTC Final 2023. As the Indian team lost to New Zealand during the WTC Final 2021, they lost the 2023’s ‘Ultimate Test’ to Australia by a huge margin of 209 runs.
