On day two of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test match between Australia and India at the Gabba in Brisbane, former English women’s cricketer Isha Guha allegedly made a racist remark about Jasprit Bumrah live on air during her commentary stint on Fox Cricket. The 39-year-old reportedly called Jasprit Bumrah “primate” while trying to lavish praise on the Indian fast bowler, who had picked up a couple of early wickets in the first session of play.

As per the report from 7News, when the alleged incident happened in the commentary box, Brett Lee, the former Australian men’s cricketer, was alongside Isa Guha in the commentary booth. After Lee remarked, ““Bumrah, today: five overs, 2-4. So, that’s the tone, and that’s what you want from the ex-skipper,” Guha responded to his comment by calling the Indian fast bowler the “MVP - Most Valuable Primate.”

“Well, he’s the MVP, isn’t he? Most valuable primate, Jasprit Bumrah. “He is the one that’s going to do all the talking for India, and why so much focus was on him in the build-up to this Test match, and whether he would be fit,” Isha Guha understood to have said about the 31-year-old cricketer. Guha’s reported comment for Bumrah was picked up by a cricket fan on the live broadcast, and they shared the clip of it on the social media platform X, although SportsTiger can’t confirm the authenticity of the video.

The most infamous racial incident in the BGT series happened in 2008 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) when the “MonkeyGate Scandal” - involving Harbhajan Singh and late great Andrew Symonds - rocked the core of cricketing relationship between India and Australia. Harbhajan Singh was initially suspended for three international matches for his role in the scandal, but after the Indian team management protested against it vehemently, the ban was revoked later on.
