Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was fined 10 per cent of his match fee on Saturday, April 27. The Indian youngster was handed the fine after breaching the IPL Code of Conduct in MI’s match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the national capital.
Kishan, who was seen abusing cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment during the clash was found guilty under IPL’s Level 1 offence. “Kishan committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction,” the IPL statement read as quoted by PTI.
It is to be noted that for Level 1 offences, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.
What does the Article 2.2 of IPL Code of Conduct states?
Elaborating the breach Ishan Kishan was penalised for, includes “any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately, recklessly or negligently results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings.”
Moreover, it also includes the abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment and others.
The Indian keeper-batter played a 14-ball 20-run knock during MI’s sixth defeat in IPL 2024 against DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. In pursuit of the 258-run target, Tilak Varma played a crucial 63-run knock along with important contributions from skipper Hardik Pandya and Tim David.
